Re: these guys make way too much money
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 2:01 AMI suppose it is a disgusting amount of money.... but every time i hear about this topic, i defend the players... people pay to watch baseball. The players should get the money before the owners, and the organizations themselves. Without the talent, no one would be in the seats.
Thanks for posting this list... -

Fri, July 18, 2008 - 5:50 AMYou do have a point..... people pay and most of the time there are medical risks in the sport so i guess if you looked at things from that perspective it is very popular...heck it's a religion for me so well you got me! God bless Basebal! -

Re: these guys make way too much money
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 9:31 AMHaha... its a religion to me as well!
And you could argue that the ticket prices are too high... and there's too much money in the game itself with tv time, advertising on the field, so on and so forth... but if there's revenue coming in the door - its due to the talent on the field. And if anyone deserves to bring home the bucks, its the players. So I say - pay 'em...
OR lower ticket prices... but I'm not holding my breath for that!
Here's to a great 2nd half!!

Re: these guys make way too much money
Fri, November 27, 2009 - 6:40 AMThis would lead us to the question of whether Baseball should have a cap. I am for it.
The teams fate is essentially determined in the off-season. Sure, you have your occasional Tampa Bay or Minn Twins story, who manage to be competitive in a small market - but clearly the Yankees and the Boston's of the league are buying their way in to the playoffs every year. Which is bullshit.
If Selig wasn't such a sally, he'd have at least tried to address it, but he hardly even acknowledges it as a problem.
Free agency creates a market - and sometimes for a player, you have to over-pay. But its wrong that these marquis guys always end up going to one of about 4 teams.
The Yankees from last year to this year are a perfect example. Tex, AJ and CC- they were the big tickets, they went to the big spender, and the Yanks bought themselves another championship.
Will this ever change?
Somebody get out the 'crystal ball'
